Climb the Stüdlgrat on the Grossglockner (3,798 m) – one of the most spectacular and famous ridge routes in the Eastern Alps. Guided by a certified mountain guide from MT Experts, you’ll enjoy a technically challenging yet perfectly managed ascent to the highest peak in Austria.
The Stüdl Ridge offers a true alpine classic: exposed ridge climbing up to UIAA III+, breathtaking views, and the unforgettable moment of reaching the summit cross of the Grossglockner. This tour is ideal for experienced mountaineers with solid climbing skills, surefootedness, and good physical condition.
Tour itinerary – 2 days on the Stüdlgrat
Best season: mid-June to early October
Day 1 – Ascent to the Stüdlhütte
Meeting point at 12:00 pm at the Lucknerhaus (1,920 m) in Kals am Grossglockner. After a short welcome and gear check, we hike through the Ködnitz Valley up to the Stüdlhütte (2,801 m) – our comfortable base for the next day’s climb.

Duration: approx. 4 hours
Day 2 – Climb the Stüdl Ridge to the Grossglockner (3,798 m)
We start early, crossing the Teischnitz or Ködnitz Glacier to reach the base of the ridge. Then follows the classic ridge climb (UIAA III+) – airy, exciting, and always spectacular – leading all the way to the summit of the Grossglockner. Descent via the Normal Route or the same way back into the valley.
