The Grossglockner ascent combines glacier travel, easy climbing, and a spectacular summit experience.The classic route leads via the Erzherzog-Johann Hut and the Kleinglockner ridge to the main summit.


Tour itinerary – 2 days on the Grossglockner


Best season: June to September


Day 1 – Ascent to the Erzherzog-Johann Hut


Meeting point around 12:00 pm at the Lucknerhaus (1,920 m) in Kals am Grossglockner.After the welcome and gear check, we ascend together to the Stüdlhütte (2,801 m) and continue over the Ködnitzkees glacier to the Erzherzog-Johann Hut (3,454 m) –our base for the summit day.

  • Ascent: approx. 1,500 m

  • Duration: approx. 4.5 hours


Day 2 – Summit day Grossglockner (3,798 m)


Early start over the Eisleitel to the Kleinglockner. A short but impressive climb across the Glocknerscharte leads us to the highest point in Austria.Descent via the same route back into the valley.

Stats:

  • Ascent: 350 m (approx. 1.5 hours)

  • Descent: approx. 4 hours
