Climb the highest mountain of South Tyrol and experience one of the most impressive alpine routes in the Eastern Alps. Accompanied by a certified mountain guide, you will ascend the Ortler (3,905 m) via the legendary Hintergrat ridge.This classic route is considered one of the finest alpine ridge climbs and offers outstanding ridge climbing in mixed terrain. The varied combination of rock, snow and ice sections makes the Hintergrat a truly special and rewarding ascent.

Together with your mountain guide, you will tackle this demanding high-alpine tour safely and efficiently, with the route and pace individually adapted to your abilities and the current conditions.

Tour Itinerary – Ortler Hintergrat in 2 Days


Day 1 – Arrival & Ascent to the Hintergrathütte


Meeting point is at 2:00 pm in Sulden (Italy) at the Langensteinbahn parking area. After a thorough equipment check and distribution of rental gear if required, we take the chairlift for part of the ascent. From there, we hike up to the Hintergrathütte, where we will spend the night. The day ends with a detailed briefing and preparation for the summit climb.

Day 2 – Ortler Summit via the Hintergrat Ridge


We start early in the morning and follow the spectacular Hintergrat ridge towards the summit. The route leads over exposed ridge sections and mixed alpine terrain, requiring solid climbing skills, endurance and concentration.Upon reaching the summit of Ortler (3,905 m), we enjoy a well-earned break and breathtaking panoramic views. The descent follows the Normal Route, passing the Julius Payer Hut, before returning to the valley and the starting point.

Elevation gain: ↑ 1,260 m | ↓ 2,000 m
