Ski Traverse – Venediger Range with a IFMGA Mountainguide
A high-alpine multi-day ski tour through one of the most stunning regions of the Hohe Tauern
The Venediger Range offers one of the most beautiful and versatile ski traverses in the Eastern Alps. Far away from the classic “Hochtirol,” you’ll explore remote glacier basins, quiet valleys and spectacular descents.Depending on weather, conditions and your group’s fitness, we create a fully customized ski traverse with optional variations.
Suggested Itinerary – 4-Day Ski Traverse
Day 1 – Ascent to Essener-Rostocker Hut & Preparation
Ascent to the Essener-Rostocker Hut (2,208 m).In the afternoon:
Equipment check & gear set-up
Avalanche rescue refresher (LVS training)
Tour briefing & planningOptionally, a short ski tour to the Rostocker Eck.
Day 2 – Maurertörl → Obersulzbach Glacier → Kürsinger Hut
From the hut we climb to the Maurertörl and cross into the impressive Obersulzbach Glacier.A magnificent glacier descent takes us down towards the former “Turkish Tent Camp” area.From there we skin up to the Kürsinger Hut, the classical base below the Großvenediger.
Day 3 – Großvenediger or Prager Hut Variant
Option A – Ascent of the Großvenediger (3,666 m):We climb the glacier dome to the summit and enjoy a fantastic descent to the Johannis Hut.A highlight of the entire Venediger region.
Option B – Scenic Prager Hut Variant:If conditions and group preference allow:
Beautiful descent into a remote basin
Overnight at the Neue Prager HutThe next day: ascent of the Großvenediger and descent to the Johannis Hut.This variation offers quiet terrain and stunning ski lines beyond the standard routes.
Day 4 – Weißspitze → Wallhorntörl → Timmeltal → Return
A demanding high-alpine stage leads over the Wallhorntörl toward the Weißspitze.We ski down through the wide, secluded Timmeltal to the valley floor, followed by a 10-minute taxi ride back to the starting point.
Optional – Extension in the Timmeltal
On request, we can add a night at the Eisenhütte and make another remote and absolutely beautiful ski tour in the Timmeltal.A great option for ambitious groups who want to extend their traverse.

Requirements
Good fitness for daily ascents up to approx. 1,400 vertical metres
Confident skiing in open terrain & on glacier surfaces
Experience with crampons & ice axe is beneficial
